If you don’t know, Lux Interior was the lead singer of The Cramps and died today of a chronic heart condition at age 62. I was just informed of this by my friend Coop. This is not only sad because of the loss of another underground icon but the fact that it is another example of the ending of a great era. From the deaths of Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer to Ron Asheton of The Stooges just last month on Jan. 6, 2009. It is one of the most horrible things to experience in this world. To see a role model, icon of your childhood or even a mentor die. I don’t know if this is me being melodramatic but I don’t think we have any real rebels or social outcasts (mentors) that kids that just don’t fit in, can connect with. These people that I have just mentioned made a difference and for this new generation of musicians to aspire to that is amazing, whether we feel they do or not. I remember a couple of Halloweens ago being in San Francisco seeing The Cramps and thinking what an amazing show and they have been doing it for a couple of generations. For those of you who are fans, get your records, tapes, cds or whatever and listen to them tonight as a last honor to him and just remember the performances and songs that made an impression on you.

R.I.P. Erick Lee Purkhiser (Lux Interior)
